Conversations & Confrontations: How to Communicate When It Really Matters

Description

Being able to deliver a message clearly, succinctly, and purposefully is a critical leadership skill. Whether we are leading a team meeting, speaking to a colleague or providing performance feedback, it’s critical that we communicate in a way that gets our point across—and is understood by the receiver in the way we intended. In this part-day workshop you will learn how you can assess, improve, and deliver your personal message within the workplace. This session is open for anyone that communicates with colleagues, clients, and constituents! As an added bonus this session qualifies for 5 education points in your application for CFRE certification or recertification.

Key Take-Aways: 

  • The impact of mindsets or mental models on the communication process and strategies for making these more conscious;
  • How our personality styles affect the way we send and receive messages;
  • The neuroscience of listening
  • How we get “triggered” when communicating and how we can develop strategies to increase self-awareness and choose constructive responses
  • Previous communication “snafus,” analyzing the source of the problem, and learning how to anticipate and design future conversations to increase connection and understanding.

Speakers: 

Valerie Lingeman, M.A., Professional Certified Coach

Valerie thrives on helping leaders navigate the complexity of organizational life. Over the course of her 25-year career in the national security sector, Valerie managed people and programs and led change at division and enterprise levels. In her private coaching and organization development consulting practice, she has coached hundreds of leaders and teams at all levels, helping them achieve a multitude of individual and organizational goals. Valerie especially enjoys the challenge of coaching leadership teams because they are the single most critical link for achieving organizational success.

Cynthia Way, Principal and Master Certified Coach (MCC)

While Cynthia has been coaching since 1991, she has been the President and Owner of Way To Go! inc. since 2001. She works with individuals and teams to develop mastery in leadership competencies, to create meaningful results, think strategically and systemically, lead change, deal constructively with conflict, master the art of communication and achieve breakthrough results, aligning with passion and purpose. Cynthia brings a unique history: a successful 13 year career with the Central Intelligence Agency on the executive track, co-led a private sector merger and acquisition culture integration effort with AT&T, and worked with the FBI and police departments as a biometrics consultant. Her clients span the private and public sectors. She has served on the Board for the Society for Organizational Learning, the Big Big World Project--a nonprofit she co-founded serving Vietnamese orphans, and Circulos.


Full participation in the Conversations & Confrontations Workshop is applicable for 5 POINTS in Category 1.B – Education of the CFRE International application for initial certification and/or recertification.
